Award-winning filmmaker, Hollywood writer and stand-up comedian Steven Alan Green brings his brand-new solo show THE RISING FOOL The Yard Theater stage.
Imagine yourself finally becoming a great success. But, you had to travel across the pond to England to do so. Imagine reaching the greatest comedy heights where you wanted to share your comedy rainbow with your American comedy friends, as well as help a drug and alcohol charity launched by Princess Diana. Then, imagine your comedy childhood hero destroying it all, making international news. Then imagine a film in development about your life and all the weirdness that brings.
A “Comedy Store Legend” from the old daze, Steven has worked with them all. From Richard Pryor to Robin Williams to Sam Kinison. His legendary foray into the world of British comedy and being one of the only American comedians to ever do so, yielded great spoils as well as pungent, almost “G.K. Chesteron” worthy anecdotes. Whether it’s getting out of a speeding ticket by use of a ventriloquist dummy, verbally kicking Jean Claud Van Dam’s butt in front of 300 onlookers, or (most famously) nearly accidentally killing his childhood comedy hero Jerry Lewis at a production of an international standup comedy television gala, or mistakenly embarrassing Sir Ian McKellen by confusing him with a Teletubby. Steven has the unique talent of getting into unique awkward trouble, only to turn it all on its head with Swiftian comedic twist.
The Rising Fool is an inspiration to anyone who’s been knocked back while chasing their dream and the lesson is, that whatever the dream, whether you make it happen or not, you’ve got to get the most out of each experience – and do it with a sense of humor - to truly taste what life is all about at its best.
The Rising Fool includes original music performed by Steven and an exclusive screening of Steven's multi-award winning short film "Little Things".
Note: The Rising Fool is being filmed as part of a British produced documentary examining the anniversary of the moment which changed Steven’s life. When legendary comedy icon Jerry Lewis made international news by collapsing on the show Steven produced in London.
“He exists on the very edge of “unlikable showbiz American”, like a cross between Danny De Vito and Sgt. Bilko, which makes him all the more entertaining to watch!” - Kate Copstick, The Scotsman, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival
“SAG is a maven of comedy. He makes stream of consciousness look easy. He makes belligerence fun. He makes taking comedy seriously lighthearted. He makes me laugh.” -- Beth Lapides; creator and producer of Uncabaret (and Sex Goddess, IMHO)
“The consummate American entertainer!” - Davey from The List, Edinburgh Fringe Festival
